The largest Lake Tahoe Lacrosse Tournament in the eventand#8217;s 22-year history swept through Incline Village without a hitch this past weekend.

and#8220;It went great,and#8221; said tournament director Curt Wegener, who again used both Incline High School and the Village Green as venues. and#8220;It was very well attended, there was a high level of lacrosse and the weather was nice. It was a lot of fun.and#8221;

The annual three-day tournament featured 10 womenand#8217;s teams and 32 menand#8217;s teams, which was up from last yearand#8217;s 28 and the previous yearand#8217;s 24. There were only 16 menand#8217;s teams as recently as 2009.

But while the tournament has grown substantially in recent years, the high level of competition has remained consistent.

ADRLN Tropics out of San Diego, touted on its team website as and#8220;the most selective and talented team in the West,and#8221; defended its title from a year ago by sweeping through the tournament.

The Southern California squad routed Central CA 18-0 to open the tourney Friday. They went on to defeat Tribe 7-3 on Friday and O Club 8-4 on Saturday before taking down Twisted Steel 14-3 in the semifinal round Sunday. That set up a championship showdown Sunday between Tropics and Dub C, which was made up mostly of players from the Western Collegiate Lacrosse League, Wegener said. Tropics came out on top, 8-6, to repeat as champs.

The only local team in the tournament, Tahoe Dawgs, won its first game 10-7 over the Sin City Sixers before losing the next three to finish 1-3 overall.

The event, which serves as the main fundraiser for the Truckee Tahoe Lacrosse Association, is not over just yet. The U-19 branch of the tournament is scheduled for this weekend, July 27-29, at the Village Green. Play begins at 9 a.m. all three days. The championship is Sunday at noon.
