TT rides again

TRUCKEE, Calif. — TT Valosek was up to his road-biking exploits again this summer. Mt. Evans again was his target of interest. Since he was too young to enter the annual Mt. Evans race, (minimum age is 10 years old), he insisted he mirror the race course on his own.

Early Wednesday morning on Aug. 22, TT and his father Tony left from downtown Idaho Springs toward their goal, the summit of Mt. Evans. Starting elevation was 7,600 feet. Fourteen miles and 2,800 feet later they arrived at Echo Lake and the entrance to the Mt. Evans road, last year’s starting point. After a quick break they began their accent to the summit. Another 14.5 miles and 3,800 feet and they arrived at the summit of the mountain, elevation 14,130 feet. The ride took a total of 5 and a half hours, climbed 6,600 feet, and required many power snacks. At the top, TT was totally spent, to the point the victory Coke he planned did not seem so important.

TT Valosek accomplished another personal best and age record becoming the youngest ever to ascend Mt. Evans by starting in Idaho Springs, at the not-so-tender age of 8. In August 2011, at age 7, TT rode from Echo Lake, Colo. (10,400 feet), to the summit of Mt. Evans, Colo. (14,265 feet). He is already planning his next Mt. Evans ride in preparation of the annual Mt. Evans race when he is 10-years-old.

TT trains in the Truckee Donner area, regularly biking Donner summit and Skislope. Other climbs he has done are Tioga Pass, Yosemite; Mt. Tam, Marin; and Mt. Rose, Incline.
