Led by first-place finisher Kate Rye, the Incline Middle School sixth- and seventh-grade girls finished first as a team at the annual South Tahoe Cross Country meet last Thursday.
Rye ran the challenging course in a time of 16:01, finishing just ahead of two other girls. Also with a top-10 finish in the sixth/seventh-grade race from IMS was Madelynne Sewell, who finished 10th with a time of 17:51.
IMS athletes Ella Kuzyk (18:46), Chandler Cohn (19:58) and Morgan Brooks (22:15) completed the top five scores with places of 16th, 26th and 34th, respectively. These five girls posted a score of 80 points, with the second- and third-place teams earning 88 and 91 points.
Of the 124 boys in the sixth/seventh-grade race, IMS also posted multiple top finishers, resulting in a third-place team finish.
Michael Lampe finished fourth with a time 15:55. Just missing a top 10 finish, Ian Smith was 12th with a time of 16:56. Closely following were Paul Larson (17:07) and Dalton Fry (17:17) in 14th and 17th places, respectively. Rounding out the five boys who scored points was George Hummer in 52nd place (19:13).
IMS eighth-grader Chase Buergin placed 12th with a time of 16:14. He was closely followed by teammate Johnny Lockard in 16th place (16:52).
