TRUCKEE, Calif. - On Saturday, Oct. 20, 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m. the Truckee Elementary School playground becomes the home of the much anticipated Truckee Elementary Pumpkin Patch. Admission is free. Cost for event activities range from $1-4. If it rains or snows, the festivities will be moved inside.
"In the spirit of Halloween and raising money for our children's classrooms, we encourage families to come in costume, and enjoy a day full of activities," said Truckee Elementary PTO Co-President Katie Flynn.
This ghoulish good time will include a pumpkin patch, carnival games, pony rides, haunted and not-so-haunted houses, petting zoo, mini golf, "slime the witch," a Dia de los Muertos table, cake walk, music, food vendors, spider hockey and more. Pumpkins will be available to purchase, as will food and treats.
"We can't thank our community enough and those who come from other schools year after year to enjoy this fun-filled event and to support Truckee Elementary. Last year our Pumpkin Patch raised $18,000," said Alex Herrera, PTO co-president. "All proceeds support a wide range of classroom expenditures, including new art supplies, books for creative story-telling time, field trips that encourage environmental-based learning and much more."
The Pumpkin Patch comes alive in thanks to many volunteers and benefactors including numerous Truckee businesses: $6,200 was donated last year to Truckee Elementary from businesses through participation in this event. The Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) donates hundreds of hours organizing and implementing the event; Truckee Elementary teachers and students from each classroom staff a booth, and Truckee High School and Middle School students donate their time the day of the event.
The Truckee Elementary PTO wants to extend a heartfelt thank you to this year's generous Pumpkin Patch sponsors including Dickson Realty, Western Nevada Supply, West Orthodontics Teichert Aggregates, Taco Bell, Tyson Lechner, Truckee Tahoe Airport District, Mountain Home Center, and Tahoe Truckee Lumber.
"The generosity of our sponsors is what makes events like Pumpkin Patch possible, and in turn, what makes a lot of our school's supplemental resources and programs possible. Support our sponsors, and you support Truckee Elementary," said Herrera.
