Letter to the Editor: Let's not allow newcomers to ruin Tahoe City

This is in response to Sandy Evans Hall's My Turn from Nov. 2, "Putting a stop to the rumor mill."

The reason the people of this community are talking about the Vision Process is not because they're excited about it, but rather because they're upset.

Having looked at the packet of the process, it appears that our little community is no longer going to be the Tahoe City we all know and love. Many of us moved here because Tahoe City is so charming. Where is the charm going to be after all of the new stores, hotels, public transit, districts, etc. are created?

What we're going to have is Everywhere, California - new streets, new buildings, new hotels, new everything. Many of the historic properties will disappear, all of the charm will be gone. Tahoe City will look like every other "new" town in the country.

We'll be just like Vail, Beaver Creek, the Villages at Squaw and Northstar - timeshares and condos, chain stores and restaurants. We'll just be another cookie-cutter community with the charm of a lump of clay.

I urge everyone who cares about Tahoe City to get involved in the process and not allow the newcomers to our community ruin a beautiful place.
