April 27, 1923 - September 18, 2012Ellen Robertson led a full and active life. She traveled all over the United States, Mexico and Canada with her husband George in their fifth-wheel. She flew in helicopters, private planes, the Goodyear Blimp and gliders over Truckee. She took every opportunity for adventure. On Sept. 18, 2012 we lost Mary Ellen Nelson Robertson. As a community, we will miss her. She was the matriarch of a large and loving family. Our mother was married for 65 years to her devoted husband George Robertson. All of her family was able to be with her on her last days on earth and nothing could have made mom happier before she was able to join our dad in heaven. She raised three children (Margaret Holmes, Barbara Robertson and G. David Robertson). Ellen also enjoyed seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Ellen's love of family grew as her family grew. It grew to 24, with the newest member of the family being born just one week before she passed away.A lovely funeral service was held on Sept. 29, 2012 as a celebration of life. She was then laid to rest at the Truckee Cemetery next to her husband.Ellen loved God and family. She and her husband were active members of the Fellowship Community Church (formally known as Truckee Baptist Church) for 20 years. They built their home in Truckee and faithfully attended church where they helped whenever needed. With more than 8,000 hours as a volunteer, Ellen worked as a bookkeeper in the Nutrition Department of Tahoe Forest Hospital. The hospital held a special memorial service in honor of Ellen and George (who also volunteered approximately 8,000 hours) with people attending to honor their memory & service. A bench has been placed in the Hospice Garden as a tribute to their work. They were both much loved in Truckee.Nothing made mom happier than our family getting together. Family nights were common occurrences and two years ago, 20 of our family members went to Disneyland for a reunion. Ellen was beyond happy to be surrounded by her loved ones. On Dec. 20 we will again all be in Disneyland and mom will most definitely be with us in spirit. We love and miss you.
