Former South Lake Tahoe woman sentenced for filing false tax return

A U.S. District Judge sentenced former South Lake Tahoe resident Gwen Noel Luckett, 59, to two years in prison Monday and for filing a fraudulent tax return, according to a statement from federal prosecutors.

Luckett was also ordered to pay $605,692 in restitution to the U.S. Internal Revenue Service.

"According to the indictment, Luckett filed a fraudulent 2008 tax return in July 2009 with the Fresno Service Center claiming excessive federal tax withholding and investment expenses that she did not incur," the statement said.

Before filing the 2008 return, Luckett failed to file a return for at least the prior six years and obtained a $605,692 refund, according to prosecutors.
