Joanne Skowronski died peacefully in her sleep, at home, on Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012. Joanne was born 72 years ago in Marshall, Minn., on Nov. 19, 1940.Joanne was much loved and will be greatly missed by all of her friends here at Lake Tahoe and in all the oversea areas that she lived in. Her father was an officer in the Army Air Corp (later the US Air Force) thus Joanne and her two brothers had an early start on a life of travel and adventure. She lived in the Philippines at the age of 8, then on to Alaska, Texas, Florida and Louisiana. In her early twenties and single, Joanne worked at the "Grapes," a pub in Manchester, England. These were the days of the "English Invasion," Sean Connery, Dusty Springfield, George Best (soccer great) and other celebrities were in Joanne's world. It was an exciting fun time. Joanne also enjoyed the opportunity to travel with her mother all over the U.K. and France making many lasting memories.Once back in the US, living in Pleasant Hill, Calif., and working for a dental technician, she met Chet Skowronski in 1968, an officer in the US Merchant Marine. It was love at first sight, resulting in a wonderful 42 years of marriage.Joanne and Chet traveled the world, as Chet migrated into the International offshore oil and gas industry. Literally hundreds of lasting friendships and new memories were created. But, through all of this, a house in a special Lake Tahoe neighborhood was always "home." Roseville, Calif., became a new home in 2011 because of special needs. There were no children, but she and Chet lived a fulfilling life filled with countless friends. Joanne was a warm and outgoing person, always willing and quick to help others. Her trademark big smile will be deeply missed by so many who will never forget her. Joanne leaves behind her husband Chet, a brother Jack, and scores of nieces and nephews.A Memorial Service is planned, at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 3125 N. Lake Blvd, Tahoe City, CA on Saturday, Jan. 26 at 10 a.m., for her family and dear friends here at Lake Tahoe and beyond.
