Eight Incline High teachers receive interactive white boards

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. - Eight Incline High School teachers walked into their classrooms the Monday after Thanksgiving break last year to new technology, in the form of eight Promethean interactive white boards that were made possible by the Incline Boosters and a private donor.

The interactive white boards consist of an electronic screen and a data projector, and are usually connected to a computer with Internet access. The boards are identified as a way to incorporate a wide range of media sources into the classroom. Teachers can show video clips, Internet searches and websites, sound clip, and pictures to enhance their lesson.

The interactivity of the boards also allows teachers to "record" their lessons and save them for student reference. Students who miss school or need to review the lecture can download the lesson and review it at their convenience.

The overall goal is to have a white board in every classroom within three years. Currently, the high school is waiting for approval for a grant to get more boards into the classrooms this year.

Last year, when a similar grant was denied, the Incline Boosters stepped up to get the eight boards into the school.

"We were happy to help fund this project," said Incline Booster President Eileen May, "Our goal is to continue funding academic needs at the school to provide opportunities for our students to be engaged with up to date technology every day."

The boosters' annual crab feed, which took place this past weekend, is the group's major fundraiser, helping raise money for projects like this.

Anyone interested in donating toward the purchase of additional interactive boards can contact the school at 775-832-4260. All donations are appreciated.
