TAHOE/TRUCKEE, Calif. - In the spirit of community, the Truckee Downtown Merchants Association is teaming up with the Tahoe Public Art Commission (TPAC) to host its monthly "First Friday" event on Friday, Feb. 1, 5-8 p.m. in downtown Truckee. All are welcome and encouraged to attend this free community event.
Headlined by TPAC's "Fiber Arts" show opening at the TDRPD community recreation center, the "First Friday" event will focus on an appreciation of local art and love, with downtown merchants providing "Cupid's Fortunate Walk."
TPAC will host the reception for its new Fiber Arts exhibit beginning at 5 p.m. at the Community Recreation Center, featuring regional artists' creations, music, food and drink. All visitors will receive a coupon for 10 percent off at participating downtown shops for First Friday.
Downtown, those merchants will be open late, showcasing art-inspired Valentine's day gifts, live music, food/drink, and passing out fortunes in "Cupid's Fortunate Walk."
Downtown highlights include a chocolate tasting at La Galleria featuring Dorinda's handcrafted chocolates; a ribbon cutting at the newly renovated Truckee Hotel; and a special "Lion Heart" art exhibit at Riverside Studios to benefit the CR Johnson Healing Center. Arts for the Schools will host Joe Craven at the Community Arts Center, 10046 Church St. at 7 p.m. "Everything Joe touches turns to music," said David Grisman to the San Jose Mercury News. TDMA's First Friday festivities take place throughout the year in downtown Truckee, 5-8 p.m. on the first Friday of each month. The event is designed to bring community members and visitors together to celebrate community and encourage the public to "think local."
