Led by Ruby Wood's first-place finish, the Truckee snowboard team took the overall win in a CNISSF slalom race at Squaw Valley last Monday.
Wood posted a winning time of 42.1 seconds between her two runs, which was just fast enough to defeat Nevada Union's Drew Bernadett, who finished second in 42.7 seconds, and Colfax's Nelly Steinhoff, who was third in 43.2.
Truckee's Nicole Graham placed sixth in a time of 50.4, while teammate Claire Roberts placed eighth in 50.96 to give the Wolverines three top-10 finishes. They were followed by teammates Sofie Maciel (12th, 52.32) and Wynter Lim (17th, 56.02).
Courtney Peters led the North Tahoe girls, as she finished seventh in 50.48. Fellow Laker Roxy Schumann was 13th in 52.57 and was followed by Brie Dubuc (18th, 56.35) and Sierra Aildasani (20th, 59.38).
The Nevada Union girls, with three racers in the top five, won the girls team competition with 1,868 points to the runner-up Truckee girls' 1,852. The North Tahoe girls were third at 1,786.
On the boys side, Jacob Peek of Placer High won in 40.97 seconds. He was trailed by Kyle Bryant of Colfax in 41.58, while Truckee's Quinntin Butler took third in 43.33.
Truckee's Ryan Murphy finished fifth in 45.89, Casey Curtis was 16th in 50.54 and Devron Kim 20th in 52.04. For the Lakers, Nash Baehr led the way with a 19th-place finish in 51.59.
The Placer boys took the team win with 1,874 points, Truckee was second with 1,786 and Davis was third with 1,775.
With their boys and girls each placing second, the Wolverines claimed the overall victory with a combined score of 3,638 points to Placer's 3,539 and Nevada Union's 3,532. Davis was fourth with 3,419 points, followed by Colfax (2,992) and North Tahoe (2,588).
