First Friday in downtown Truckee helps kick-off SnowFest! with snow-themed fun

TRUCKEE, Calif. - In the spirit of community, the Truckee Downtown Merchants Association will help kick off North Lake Tahoe's SnowFest! with its monthly "First Friday" event March 1, 5-8 p.m. in downtown Truckee. All are welcome and encouraged to attend this free community event.

This month's event is themed "Snow Madness." Participating merchants will celebrate all things snow. The event will be headlined by a "Downtown-Adorned Snowman Contest" to be judged via the Historic Downtown Truckee Facebook page (www.facebook.com/HistoricTruckee). Participating merchants will hand out unique pieces for decorating your snowman. Collect them Friday night, take them home, get creative on your snowman and upload a photo of your finished product to the Facebook page for a chance to win great prizes from downtown merchants.

Other event highlights will include live sidewalk music by Angele Marie Thibodeau and Friends, provided by Grattitudes, La Galleria and The White Buffalo; an art show at Riverside Studios featuring local master wood worker Tom Beebe and live music by Kelly Ann Miller; and Neat Tweets creations building mini bird houses for the kids at Artisan's Marketplace.

Several merchants will be open late and will feature shopping specials, food and refreshments, and participating restaurants will feature snow-themed specials. Participating merchants will display "First Friday" flags. Attendees are encouraged to wear white in celebration of the opening day of SnowFest!

Celebrate the community, experience all downtown Truckee has to offer and kick off SnowFest! Friday with this fun, family-friendly local tradition. Free parking will be available downtown after 5 p.m.
