Lewis F. "Lew" Graham, former manager of the Inter-County Title Company Lake Tahoe office, died Feb. 20, 2002, at Santa Rose, Calif.
Mr. Graham was a resident of South Lake Tahoe from 1966 to 1972, where he had many friends in the business community. He was a member of Rotary and the Roosters and was an avid camper and fisherman. He was well known to other service club in the area as he often cooked special banquets for them. His crab feeds were especially memorable.
Mr. Graham accepted the position of county manager for First American Title Company of Mendocino County in 1972 and was promoted in 1977 to the same position for Sonoma County. He retired in 1997 and resided in Santa Rosa until his death.
Mr. Graham was born in Rockville, Conn., in 1923. He served in the U.S. Eighth Air Force during World War II as a B-17 bomber pilot flying missions to France and Germany from Chelveston, England. After the war he settled in northern California and started his long career in the escrow and title business, opening new offices, watching them flourish and then moving on to the next challenge. One of his greatest gifts was the ability to spot and develop executive talent and training them to become managers themselves. He shared his gift of laughter and love of good food. He was a born chef and created recipes and cooked for family and friends to the end. He also looked forward to monthly luncheons with the WWII Pilots Club in Santa Rosa.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Graham of Santa Rosa; sister Elizabeth Denne of Easton, Conn.; sons, Lew Graham of Irvine, Calif., Peter Graham of Cincinnati, Ohio, and David Graham of South Lake Tahoe; daughter, Minda of Parma, Idaho; step-daughters, Misty Gaswint of South Lake Tahoe and Maryan Tooker of Reno, Nev.; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will take place at 3 p.m. April 5 at the Sonoma Repertory Theater at Sebastopol, Calif. It was his wish to have his ashes scattered in the South Lake Tahoe area. Donations may be made to any organization benefiting the study of diabetes.
