Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care Inc. will open its doors to the public with its annual open house from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. The event will take place at 1485 Cherry Hills Circle, off Elks Club Drive in Meyers, three blocks from the Elks Lodge.

This is the one time of the year that those - other than volunteers with the nonprofit organization - are permitted on the grounds where the wild birds and animals are rehabilitated, on their way to release back to the wild.

Demonstrations will highlight the day's festivities every hour on the half hour. Various species on display will be golden eagles, great horned owls, raccoons, 3-month-old beavers and Marvin, the porcupine. LTWC volunteers will be on hand to guide you through the grounds and describe the reasons the various wildlife are at LTWC, and the prognosis for their eventual release back to the wild.

Retail items will be available, including the newly designed T-shirts and hats, posters and magnets. Videos will be shown of the two bear cubs rehabbed at LTWC and released this past February. Harrah's Tahoe will once again provide a serving of cake for all those who attend.

LTWC is a tax-deductible organization, and donations are welcomed and encouraged.
