* Sacramento

Newman donates to grocer's family fund

Veteran actor Paul Newman, founder of the Newman's Own line of grocery products, donated $32,000 to Food for Families, Raley's nonprofit organization aimed at feeding the needy.

The Sacramento grocery chain also announced that Newman has made other donations through his product line.



* Carson City

Tahoe wedding fair coming March 5

The South Lake Tahoe Wedding and Honeymoon Association is co-sponsoring with Weddings of the West a bridal fair March 5 in Carson City. It's slated from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Nevada Appeal Building, 580 Mallory Way.

Florists, photographers, caterers, videographers, wedding cakes and horse drawn carriage companies will be featured.

More than $5,000 in door prizes will be given away during the event, which is free to the public.



* South Lake Tahoe

Chambers host merger meeting on Wednesday

The South Lake Tahoe and Tahoe Douglas chambers of commerce are sponsoring another merger meeting Wednesday. It's slated for 5:30 p.m. at the Tahoe Seasons Resort located at 3901 Saddle Road.

The meeting recaps a discussion about a merger proposal brewing between the two chambers. The California chamber membership is expected to vote on the proposal during the March 16 meeting at 8 a.m. at Harrah's Lake Tahoe. On the Nevada side, the other chamber will decide on the merger on March 21 at 8 a.m. at Inn By the Lake.

Both meetings are free and open to the public.
