Photographers will be out this week and over the weekend looking for home addresses provided to the Tribune.

We will publish photos of selected homes in the Dec. 22 edition of the paper and at www.tahoedailytribune.com

Flu shots on Thursday

Barton HealthCare System has one remaining flu clinic available for folks to get both flu and pneumonia vaccines. It will be on Thursday, Dec. 14, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the South Lake Tahoe ice area.

Flu shots are $20. Pneumonia shots, which last at least five years, are $30.

"Interest in getting a flu vaccination has traditionally tapered off after Thanksgiving," said Ann Truscot, R.N. in Barton's Occupational Medicine department.

"Since flu activity typically does not peak until around January and February, December is still a good time to be vaccinated. It does take about two weeks to build immunity," Truscot said.

Nearly everyone is encouraged to get the flu vaccine with some exceptions.

"Anyone who is allergic to eggs or has a history of Guillain-Barre Syndrome should not be vaccinated," said Truscot.

"Or if they are currently sick or if they are allergic to Gentamicin Sulfate (an antibiotic) or Formaldehyde they shouldn't get the vaccine."

If someone misses the remaining flu clinic they still have options.

They could try Longs or Raley's or they can always call Occupational Medicine the prices would be the same as the clinic. Or their family physician would be another resource.

For flu clinic information, call (530) 543-5615.

To reach Occupational Medicine, call (530) 543-5882.
