More than a decade has passed since Lawrence Taylor last played in the American Century Championship.

That streak will come to end next week as NBC Sports has invited the former NFL superstar to participate in the the 54-hole championship, according to Jon Miller.

The Pro Football Hall of Famer hasn't played in the Stateline event since 1995 when he finished in a five-way tie for 20th place.

During his celebrated NFL career as a linebacker with the New York Giants, LT was voted NFL Defensive Player of the Year three times, selected to 10 Pro Bowls and was a two-time Super Bowl winner. Before retiring, Taylor registered 132 1/2 sacks (not including the 9 1/2 he made in 1981 when sacks weren't an NFL stat); forced 33 fumbles, recovered 10 fumbles and picked off 10 passes. His best season came in 1986 when he collected 20 1/2 quarterback sacks and was voted the league's most valuable player.

Taylor has admitted to using cocaine early in his NFL career and was suspended several times by the league. His cocaine addiction led to being jailed on several occasions after retirement.

Taylor, however, has appeared to have put his troubles in the past, spending much of his time playing golf these days.

In addition to his 20th-place finish in the ACC in 1995, Taylor came was 30th in 1991 and 37th in 1990.
