Barbara Brown Harney won the fourth event of the World Series of Poker Lake Tahoe Circuit Event on Monday at Harveys Resort and Casino in Stateline, a Ladies No-Limit Hold 'Em tournament that attracted a record field of 156.
The 156 entries was the largest turnout for the ladies' poker tournament in the four-year history of the WSOP at Lake Tahoe, and tournament officials believe it might have been the largest female-only tournament in Northern Nevada history.
Sunday's event No. 3, a $1,060 buy-in, No Limit Hold 'Em tournament, was won by Sinh Nguyen, a landscaper from California who started off the final table with a chip lead and never relinquished it. The tournament started on Sunday, but Nguyen's first-ever WSOP victory took place at the final table on Monday.
Also on Sunday at Harveys, Pollock Pines resident Merrick J. Black beat out a field of 352 players to win the $550 buy-in, No Limit Hold 'Em tournament. He pocketed $44,477 for his victory. Stateline's Tom Master took second and won $18,011.
The $5,000 buy-in main event begins on Friday and ends on Sunday.
