The South Tahoe Association of Realtors supports the community throughout the year.

The STAOR Community Service Committee recently adopted two families from the Family Resource Center during the holiday season.

The 2007 Chairperson Cindy MacLean of Pinnacle Real Estate Group stated: “It was such a wonderful experience to shop for these families knowing that they would be having a memorable Christmas this year.”

In September the Committee took part in an event held at the Factory Stores where many businesses donated items or gift certificates for local school children. The Committee donated over 40 backpacks filled with school supplies. For the past two years the Committee has donated Easter Baskets to the Women’s Center and the Family Resource Center.

Receiving an Easter basket is very special to a child that would not otherwise receive one.

In the fall of 2006 the Committee did a mini-makeover for a homeowner.

“We knew that we needed to find a homeowner that fit a certain criteria” explained 2006 Chairperson and Help-U-Sell owner Ginger Nicolay-Davis.

The Committee found a very deserving recipient, Sue Jackson. Sue is a long time resident, and has always been involved in the community. Sue volunteers for Meals on Wheels and has been a foster parent.

The Committee felt that she was a perfect candidate because she gives so much of herself without ever expecting anything in return. Many businesses donated their services. Pillar to Post provided a Home Inspection, Alpine Carpet One donated carpet for the living room and linoleum for a bathroom. C & J Driveway sealed the driveway, Fuller O’Brien Paint donated paint and supplies, and, Meeks donated supplies for the deck.

Placer Title made a monetary donation, and The Wool Tree and Nails by Lillian both donated gift certificates. Merry Maids donated their services for the clean-up after the work was completed. The generosity of these businesses was greatly appreciated.

Cindy MacLean who has handed over the reins of Chairperson to Fawne Payne of Pinnacle Real Estate Group this year said that she looks forward to the Committees continued support of these organizations as well as others in the community in 2008.
