LTUSD radon results will be presented
Results from radon testing of Lake Tahoe Unified School District buildings in November are being compiled and will be presented to the school board in February.
District Facilities Manager Steve Morales described the initial results as "pretty positive" and plans to present the full results during a Feb. 12 school board meeting.
Radon test kits available for free
In recognition of January as National Radon Action Month, El Dorado County Environmental Management is offering free radon test kits for the cancer-causing gas.
Radon is present at or above the EPA action level in about 50 percent of South Lake Tahoe homes tested, according to the county. Radon is a naturally occurring, invisible, odorless, tasteless gas that is dispersed in outdoor air but that can reach harmful levels when trapped in buildings.
Test kits are available at the Environmental Management office located at 3368 Lake Tahoe Blvd., Suite 303.
