A snowstorm wiped out last Sunday's USSA Far West races, but a day earlier Heavenly Ski and Snowboard team's Pascal Odermatt won a slalom race at Diamond Peak.
The 10-year-old's two-run time in the slalom was 1 minute, 17.83 seconds - 1.38 faster than runner-up Nelson Bedient of Diamond Peak in the J5 boys' division.
Odermatt's performance was one of a handful of podium results by South Shore racers.
Diamond Peak's Ty Sprock, a South Shore resident, was runner-up on his home hill in the J4 boys' slalom. His total time was 1:11.78, just behind winner Max Hall of Squaw Valley at 1:09.08. Kirkwood's Brian Francis was thid at 1:13.17.
The area's fourth podium result was performed by Natalie Williams in the J5 girls' slalom. She finished second in 1:21.21.
The slalom attracted 300 J4 (11-12 years old) and J5 (10 and under) racers. In the J4 girls' slalom, Squaw Valley completed a podium sweep with Madeline Johnson, Audrey O'Brien and Elizabeth Ryan going 1-2-3.
Other local racers cracking the top 10 were Diamond Peak's Connor McKeen, fourth, J4 boys; Heavenly's Maia Bickert, sixth, J5 girls; Kirkwood's Pieter Weemaes, eighth, J5 boys; Heavenly's Connor Novak, ninth, J5 boys;
Heavenly's high marks pleased coach Mark Norton.
"We have been expecting these great results from these athletes for a while now. It was exciting to see them happen," Norton said.
Finishing in the top 20 were, Heavenly's Michael Gardner, 16th, J5 girls; Abigail, Killebrew, 19th, J5 girls; Sierra-at-Tahoe's Jason Elder, 16th, J4 boys; Kirkwood's Sinclaire O'Grady, 16th, J4 girls;
The Heavenly J4's and 5's will begin preparing for slalom and GS races at Mt. Shasta on February 9-10.
