Our Beloved Friend
Jesse Rios
April 5, 1936 – February 22, 2008
Jesse Rios was born April 5, 1936, in San Antonio, Texas, where he grew up with three brothers and a sister. Jesse attended Catholic schools where he played sports. After graduation from high school in 1954 he enlisted in the United States Air Force. While in the Air Force he was stationed in Europe for four years where he traveled extensively. Later he was stationed in Travis AFB in Fairfield, Calif., where he met the love of his life, Joyce Kenny. In 1966 they were married in Reno, Nev. The very next day he left for a one-year tour in Vietnam. Upon returning to the States he was stationed at Beale AFB in Marysville, Calif. Staff Sergeant Jesse Rios would retire in 1974, after serving our country for 20 years. He would spend the next four years in Sacramento, Calif. In 1978 he and wife, Joyce, moved to South Lake Tahoe. He and Joyce both worked for Harveys. Jesse started as a baker then moved to the warehouse where he was employed for the rest of his life. Joyce, his beloved wife would pass away in 1995. Jesse loved animals, R & B, jazz and blues music. He also enjoyed sports, especially football and Nascar. Jesse had a great sense of humor, great smile and wonderful laugh. He was loved and respected by all of his friends. He passed away Feb. 22 after a short illness. He is survived by two stepdaughters, Valeri Ventimiglia of Seattle, Wash., Vicki Tirao of Vallejo, Calif.; and two brothers, Armando Rios, and John Rios, both of Baytown, Texas.
A “Celebration of Life” service for Jesse will be held at 3 p.m., Thursday March 6, at The Blue Angel Loft, 1132 Ski Run Blvd. For further information you may contact the Blue Angel Café at (530) 544-6544. Local friends who wish are encouraged to make a donation to the Humane Society, a great way to honor Jesse’s love for animals.
