Alleging that it has failed to pay South Lake Tahoe city transit occupancy taxes and hasnt complied with two civil subpoenas, a search warrant was issued this morning on The Block motel, officials said today.
South Lake Tahoe police, in collaboration with the city's fire department, finance office, the citys attorneys office, and the El Dorado County District Attorneys office said in a press statement today that it is investigating the motel for possible criminal and/or civil violations in its alleged failure to pay the citys TOT tax.
No arrests were made, officials said.
When contacted by the Tahoe Daily Tribune, a front desk person at The Block said he was not at liberty to make a statement regarding the search warrant and would pass along a message to the motels manager.
The Block is located at 4143 Cedar Avenue in South Lake Tahoe. It bills itself as being designed for snowboarders by snowboarders. The Block garnered national attention last year for a reality TV show filmed there for the G4 network.
The police department has organized the task force to crack down on TOT violations, city code violations, and health and safety violations, said Lt. Martin Hale.
The Block had been served with two prior civil subpoenas and failed to comply on both occasions, Hale said.
A search warrant was necessary to obtain the financial records of the motel, Hale said. At the same time, city and county inspectors conducted routine inspections for health, safety, fire and building code, Hale added.
Anyone with information concerning the investigation or related information is asked to contact Sgt. Josh Adler, Officer Ray Poole or Officer Mark Hounsell of the South Lake Tahoe Police Department at (530) 542-6110.
