Tahoe Arts Project, with support from Robert and Patricia Dodds, will bring the Kusun Ensemble to Lake Tahoe Community College's Duke Theater at 7 p.m. May 2.
The Kusun Ensemble is a group of musicians and dancers based in Ghana. Founded by Nii Tettey Tetteh, the ensemble includes past members of the National Ballet and The Pan African Orchestra. Although rooted in traditional music, the group has developed a new brand of music and dance that it has dubbed "Nokoko."
The group has created innovative rhythms and dances by fusing bass and lead guitar with traditional Ghanaian instruments to produce a blend of jazz and African music. The ensemble has been entertaining audiences in Ghana and around the world.
Tickets for the May 2 performance are $10 for adults and $5 for children and seniors, and they are available in advance at the California and Nevada visitor centers. To charge tickets by phone, call Tahoe Arts Project at (530) 542-3632. Tickets also will be available at the door.
The Kusun Ensemble will perform in the local schools April 28 through May 2 as part of Tahoe Arts Project's in-school performing arts programs.
For more information, call Tahoe Arts Project.
