My Reading Buddy will debut from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday and May 21 at the South Lake Tahoe El Dorado County Branch Library, 1000 Rufus Allen Blvd.

The Humane and Environmental Education Department of the Lake Tahoe Humane Society and SPCA sponsor the dog-assisted reading practice program for elementary school-age children. It was introduced at the Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe in January, and an additional summer series is planned.

Space is limited to four students per session. Each child enjoys an individual 15-minute reading session with a canine listener and a tutor. Parents may preregister readers in grades 3 through 6 by calling the Lake Tahoe Humane Society and SPCA at (530) 542-2857. There is no charge to participate.

My Reading Buddy is designed to provide an encouraging, stress-free reading experience.

For more information, contact Liz Maul, outreach and education manager, at the Lake Tahoe Humane Society and SPCA.
