A new pet store in town is causing concern among animal advocates.
Some are concerned the new pet store, called Broc’s Puppies, is selling puppy mill dogs — a practice which used to mass produce puppies in factory-like settings.
But store owner Dennis Franks said his puppies are fine and he’s following all the rules.

With soaring granite cliffs, a tumbling river and numerous waterfalls, the American River Canyon should be viewed as its own destination, not simply a high-speed vessel between Northern California and South Shore.
There is whitewater rafting on the south fork of the American River, rock climbing on the granite of Lover’s Leap and Phantom Spires and several trails leading to thundering waterfalls. But for local residents and tourists, Highway 50 is either the first part of a road trip or the last part.

This might be an unprecedented rock ’n’ roll occurrence: A band has reunited and now can be considered a supergroup.
Derringer had a good — but brief — run in the late ’70s with two successful studio albums. Rick Derringer had already achieved greatness before he put the band together. After the band split up, each member went on to achieve his own greatness.
Derringer plays at 7:30 p.m. Saturday May 10 at Harrah’s Lake Tahoe.
