Chabot College rebounded to advance to the second round of the Northern California Community baseball playoffs.

Modesto won the best-of-three series opener 12-5 on Friday, but Chabot squared the series with a 19-5 rout on Saturday. Later the same day, Chabot closed out the series with a 9-7 victory.

South Tahoe graduate Dan Tinlin appeared in the first-game defeat. He was the Gladiators' third pitcher, throwing 1/3 of a inning, allowing three hits and an earned run while striking out one.

Next up for the Gladiators (28-16) is a three-day regional tournament that begins Friday at Fresno City College in Fresno. Chabot is scheduled to play Sierra (33-14) at 11 a.m. Friday in its opening game of the four-team, double-elimination tournament. Fresno (37-9) and Cosumnes River (23-21) are also in the regional.
