Go on a walking tour of the Upper Truckee River

Print Comment
The League to Save Lake Tahoe invites the public to join California State Park personnel on free walking tours of the Upper Truckee River in Washoe Meadows State Park and Lake Valley State Recreation Area on Sunday and Monday.

The areas are included as part of a restoration project on the river, which could include changes to Lake Tahoe Golf Course.

The river and surrounding meadows within the parks have been badly damaged by grazing, logging, development and the straightening of the Upper Truckee River, according to a statement from the league.

The purpose of each tour is to educate and inform the public about the ecology of the Upper Truckee River, how it plays a role in the health of Lake Tahoe, and the different alternatives that exist for the future of the site. The tours are not public hearings and are designed as informational sessions only.

Although they are being offered on two different dates, each tour of the Lake Tahoe Golf Course will be the same.

The tours will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, and from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday.

For more information or to make a reservation, contact Raina Patrocinio with the League to Save Lake Tahoe at (530) 541-5388 or raina@keeptahoeblue.org. Information on the project alternatives can be found at www.restoreuppertruckee.net.
