The Tahoe Green Party celebrated its fourth anniversary June 11 in Lake Tahoe Community College's Aspen Room. Members and guests socialized while enjoying a special cake and beverages.
"We are here to save the great lake and surrounding areas, which is God's country," said Rod Walton, club president. "We want a diversified economy focusing on environmental-based jobs that pay good money - $30,000, $50,000, $100,000-plus yearly - and to rebuild our middle class that we lost in the past six years because of high cost of living.
"The new environmental jobs will also save the lake and surrounding areas and will instill green-minded workers for generations to come," Walton added, "therefore providing better economy and money in the locals' pockets and no longer just depending on tourism for the economy."
The Tahoe Green Party meets from 5 to 7 p.m. the third Wednesday of the month in the Aspen Room at LTCC. New members always are welcome.
