Tsunami plays Muckdawgs close

Print Comment
The last time the Tahoe Tsunami summer ball team played the Muckdawgs, the Reno team scored 17 runs in the first inning.

"They hit nine bombs on us," said Tahoe manager Matt Tillson of the previous meeting. "They didn't hit any today."

Reno still won the game 6-2 Tuesday at Todd Fields, despite a superlative pitching effort by Justin Vosburgh.

Vosburgh of Truckee allowed eight hits and fanned seven in going the distance.

The Tsunami scored twice in the fourth to pull within 3-2 of the Muckdawgs, whose roster is full of junior college players. Derek Holmgren started the rally with a base hit and advanced into scoring position on a Gary Prescott hit, but Holmgren was thrown out at home on Kevin Decker's single. Matt Marsh and Max Delallo hit run-scoring fielders' choices before the inning ended.

Tahoe left the bags full in the fifth inning.

"It was an intense game, and the kids played hard against a team that was clearly more talented," Tillson said.

Prescott led Tahoe with two singles.

The Tsunami will wrap up their homestand against the Reno Devils today at 7 p.m., then play the Berkeley Barons at noon Saturday in Tahoe City and on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Truckee.
