Whiskey Dick’s Saloon is celebrating both Independence Day weekend and one of California’s most popular and influential bands.
The Lou Dog Trio and Planting Seeds will pay tribute to Sublime on Sunday, July 6. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door.
Playing under the name Finney, Skinny and the Hick, the Lou Dog Trio began as a cover band at the University of Oregon in 2001-03. Upon graduation, the band lost its drummer to a career farming corn in Iowa, and the remaining members moved from Eugene to San Francisco.
Planting Seeds morphed into a Sublime tribute band in 2006 and added drummer Joe McKane to the lineup. The Lou Dog Trio now tours the West Coast, keeping Sublime’s music alive — and live.
Planting Seeds is a veritable musical greenhouse, ranging from flamenco to reggae and metal. The band has played from Las Vegas to Homer, Alaska, and has opened for the likes of Ky-Mani Marley, 2Live Crew, Slightly Stoopid, Long Beach Short Bus, Pepper, Sir Mix-a-Lot, Ronnie Montrose, Tone Loc, Digital Underground and Zigaboo Modeliste of the Original Meters.
True to their name, Planting Seeds has also played a number of benefits for holiday food, Toys for Tots, Music in Schools and the Homer Skate-Park Association.
