Howard Rees will give a presentation/demonstration at the Tahoe Art League's July 9 meeting at the South Lake Tahoe Senior Center, 3050 Lake Tahoe Blvd.

Rees is a part of Gallery 10, an artist-owned gallery in Sutter Creek, Calif., offering a wide selection of media. His work may be viewed at his gallery, 15 Eureka St., in the Eureka Street Courtyard.

Rees conducts workshops in his studio and plein air classes throughout the United States and Europe. In September, he will be conducting workshops at MarshallTomales/ Bodega Bay, Calif., and Sacramento; in October at Zion National Park, Utah; and in November he'll be back home in Jackson, Calif. For more information, visit www.howardreesartist.com.

Rees has been interested in art since childhood, and this lifelong interest led him to the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles, where he earned his bachelor in fine arts degree in 1964.

While earning his living utilizing his talent in the business world, Rees accepted a position with Ford Motor Company in England. While there, he became intrigued with the "Old World" atmosphere, evident in much of his work today. After leaving England, he continued to work with Ford in Detroit, designing the Mustang line. Later, he returned to California and worked for Mattel, where he designed many of the red-line era Hot Wheels cars.

In 1975, he chose to focus totally on his love of painting. Today, he paints with equal proficiency in both watercolor and oil. His subject matter extends to Americana, local Gold Country scenes, intimate European street studies and magnificent vistas.

The Tahoe Art League meets from 7 to 9 p.m. the second Wednesday of the month at the SLT Senior Center, 3050 Lake Tahoe Blvd. All are welcome. For more information, check out the TAL Web site at www.talart.org.
