Mayor honoring Charles Barkley with his own day

Be sure to wish everyone you see a happy Charles Barkley Day.

South Lake Tahoe Mayor Mike Weber proclaimed July 11 to be Charles Barkley Day in South Lake Tahoe.

Weber will honor Barkley at 10:30 a.m. Friday on the first tee at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course.

Barkley will receive a certificate of appreciation in recognition for his efforts on behalf of Angora fire victims. He hosted a dinner for the fire departments last year and also donated $100,000 to the Angora Fire Fund, benefiting victims of last summer's wildfire.

Trees will be planted at Edgewood and at the fire site in honor of Barkley. NBC will air the dedication Saturday or Sunday during the tournament's coverage.
