The Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition, a regional bicycle advocacy organization, will begin an achievement award to bring attention to people and organizations who have made significant contributions to the advancement of cycling in the Lake Tahoe region.
This award will be called the Lake Tahoe Bicycle Achievement Award and is planned to be given annually.
Anyone may submit a nomination in one or all four award categories. These categories include: individual, business, governmental agency and nonprofit organization.
Interested parties may submit a nomination for consideration by mailing or e-mailing the following details to the Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition:
-- The nominee's name.
-- The nominee's affiliation, if appropriate.
-- The nominee's contact information, preferably a telephone number.
-- A brief description - along with any supportive materials such as news clippings, photographs, etc. - of the nominee's contribution to advancing cycling issues, facilities or public awareness.
Nominations may be mailed to the Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition at P.O. Box 1147, Zephyr Cove, NV 89448. Nominations must be received no later than Aug. 1. Nominations received after Aug. 1 will not be considered. Nominations also may be submitted via e-mail at BikeLakeTahoe@aol.com.
All nominations will be reviewed by an awards committee composed of Bike Coalition members. The committee will make its award selections based on the merit of each nominee's cycling contribution.
Award recipients then will be notified and invited to the awards ceremony scheduled for Sept. 8 during intermission of the Lake Tahoe Bicycle Film Festival at the Horizon Casino Resort. At that time, a brief presentation will be given about each award recipient's contribution warranting their recognition and award.
"The awards are one small way of recognizing and bringing attention to the good work performed by many in the Lake Tahoe region. It's a way of publically saying thank you - we appreciate your contribution to Tahoe cycling," said Ty Polastri, president of the coalition.
