Barbara “Grammi” Pries

Barbara “Grammi” Pries

Known affectionately as “Grammi” to her many family and friends, she entered into rest July 14, 2008 following a short illness with her family by her side.

Born in Chicago on April 26, 1933, she moved with her family to California in 1938. She met her husband, Fred Pries, in 1952 and they were married the following year.

She moved to Lake Tahoe in 1965, after originally having told Fred “I’m not taking my babies to that wilderness.” She has lived in and loved Tahoe ever since.

She was devoted to her two granddaughters and rarely missed a dance recital, soccer or volleyball game. The most recent subject of her affection was the blue-eyed, blonde-haired great-grandson she had the tremendous pleasure of meeting in 2006.

“Grammi” worked for the Lake Tahoe Unified School district for decades and even though she retired years ago, she continued to be a fixture at Tahoe Valley School where her egg salad, macaroni salad and her ability to spell were legendary.

She is survived by daughter, Lynn Corey; granddaughters, Sara Kimble of Rohnert Park, Calif., and Rachel Corey; great-grandson (and the most recent light of her life) Jackson Kimble; grandson-in-law, Mark Kimble; and “son,” Mike Corey. She will be dearly missed by many friends in Tahoe and around the country as well as her “kids” in the public schools.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. In her honor, all who knew her are encouraged to support their local public school in any way possible.
