The U.S. Forest Service is offering a viewing of the night sky led by astronomer Rich Combs starting at 8 p.m. Thursday at Kiva Beach near the Taylor Creek Visitor Center. This hourlong program is free and open to the public.
Participants can view the evening sky with the naked eye and make observations of stars, constellations, asterisms and even galaxies, and they also can earn the mythology and science of what’s seen in the night sky. Bring a blanket, flashlight, questions and your curiosity.
To get to Kiva Beach, which is off Highway 89 just north of Camp Richardson, take the short trail from the Kiva parking lot or walk the half-mile trail from the Taylor Creek Visitor Center on the Lake of the Sky Trail.
