Carson tennis delivers STHS a second loss

Carson High won a tiebreaker in dealing the South Tahoe girls' tennis team its second loss of the season on Thursday in South Lake Tahoe.

After the teams split their 18 matches, the Senators earned the Sierra League win based on a 33-27 tiebreaker edge.

The loss dropped the Vikings into a second-place tie with Douglas at 6-2, while the Senators finished fourth at 5-3. Since the Vikings defeated Douglas, the Vikings will go to the postseason as a second seed and host a playoff match on Tuesday.

Jenny Wiseman only lost two games in winning three matches against the Senators. No. 3 singles player Alyssa Mlynsky also won three matches. Savannah Cherry and Lindsey Buchanan delivered two doubles points.

Reed overcomes WHS

Whittell nearly pulled off a volleyball victory at a Nevada 4A school on Thursday night in Sparks.

The Warriors won the first two games at Reed before the Raiders rallied to win, 18-25, 24-26, 25-20, 25-20, 15-13.

"It was a great match. The kids played with a ton of heart and played by far their best match of the year," said WHS coach Tony Fathergill. "I'm really proud of the way they brought it to the court."

Fathergill credited Dyisha Daniels for some big-time digs, Emily Scherer for her strong overall play and key blocks, and Lauren Andrew for delivering the huge spikes.

Whittell (10-11, 3-1 league) plays at Hawthorne on Saturday.

Tigers sweep Vikes

Douglas defeated the STHS volleyball team in three games on Thursday night in South Lake Tahoe.

The Vikings lost 25-11, 25-12, 25-22 to drop to 1-5 in the Sierra League and 10-6 overall. For the Vikings, Jackie Lopez had seven kills, and Kasey Roberts supplied 26 digs.
