Sierra resort reports first snow of the Lake Tahoe fall season

And today is just the beginning.

Sierra-at-Tahoe reported the first snow of the season today and although it was only a couple of inches, staff wanted the moment recorded.

"NOAA is forecasting snow through tomorrow. We're hoping we will get every inch they are calling for," said resort spokeswoman Kirstin Cattell. "We are just excited to see white stuff on the ground."

The National Weather Service in Reno has forecasted about 3 to 4 inches of snow through the weekend and overnight temperatures to plummet into the single digits.

Earlier today there were chain restrictions on Kingsbury Grade in Douglas County.

Sierra depends on Mother Nature for all 480 inches of annual snowfall that blankets its slopes, Cattell said.

"We are happy to have such an early start," she said.

The resort will hold its annual Pray For Snow party at Murphy’s Irish Pub on Nov. 13 to "entreat the snow gods and goddesses for a bountiful winter," she added.
