Lake Tahoe Child Development Center accredited

The Lake Tahoe Child Development Center has earned accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children.

The child development staff found out Aug. 31 that they met the new accreditation standards.

The NAEYC — which focuses on the quality of education of young children — started its accreditation system in 1985 and revised the original program standards September 2006. The child development center is one of the first early childhood programs in the nation to earn accreditation through the new standards in the nation.

Sue Coppini, LTCDC site supervisor, said the center’s new status will help the center compete for grants.

The accreditation status lasts for five years, and NAEYC officials can make unannounced visits throughout the time period, Coppini said. That way, they can make sure the professional standard is being maintained.
