Bruce Grego raises more than $10,000 so far in City Council campaign

Bruce Grego has taken the lead in campaign fundraising in the City Council race, gathering $10,552 in contributions through Sept. 30.

Hal Cole had received $2,468 in contributions as of Sept. 30, as well as a $1,000 loan. Austin Sass had raised $1,700 as of Sept. 30.

Incumbent Councilman Ted Long, who is seeking a second term, did not officially organize his campaign committee until Oct. 7 and therefore was not required to file a financial statement for the period ending Sept. 30, according to the City Clerk's office.

The two other candidates in the race, Jonnie Crawford and Warren Kessler, are not raising funds.

Voters will choose two of the six candidates on Nov. 4.

The financial statements were filed with the City Clerk's office last week.

Grego listed eight donations of $1,000, along with some smaller contributions. The $1,000 donors are Stanley Griffith of Lake Tahoe Coins and Collectibles; Sierra Nevada Realty; Ed McCarthy of Zephyr Cove; Americana Vacation Resorts; Stardust Tahoe Rainbow Management; Russell Penn of Timeshare Resale Brokers; Americana Vacation Club; and Stardust Vacation Club.

Sass' largest contribution for the period was $250 from Premier Resorts International. Among his other donations were $199 from Jon Koster, president of Harrah's Northern Nevada; $100 from Stephen Loyd, general manager of the Horizon Casino Resort; $199 from Lakeside Inn CEO Mike Bradford; and $199 from Blaise Carrig of Heavenly Mountain Resort.

Most of Cole's donations were $250. He received contributions from Dr. Steven Leman; John and Roxana Upton; and Rollston, Henderson, Rasmussen, Crabb & Johnson. He also received four donations from businesses or individuals in the Bay Area.

Candidates must file their next campaign finance statements on Oct. 23, which will cover the period from Oct. 1-18.
