The California Department of Justice DNA lab has identified a skull found this summer in the Scout Peak area as that of 59-year-old Andrew Sewell.
Sewell, a resident of Rio Vista, disappeared from a mountain-bike trip in October 2004. In July 2005, search-and-rescue members found belongings and bones later identified as Sewells.
South Shore resident David Berne found Sewells skull while hiking in August.
The lab found no evidence of trauma or foul play, according to a statement from the El Dorado County Sheriffs Department. The department considers Sewells death accidental due to exposure.
Once the skull is returned to the El Dorado County Sheriff-Coroners Office, it will be turned over to McFarlane Mortuary for final disposition, according to the statement.
