SOUTH LAKE TAHOE An identity theft case involving a stolen credit card has South Lake Tahoe police asking the public for help in identifying the suspected man who racked up several hundred dollars in fraudulent charges.
These two photographs were given to the Tahoe Daily Tribune from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department with the hope that it will lead to the arrest of the suspect.
On Dec. 18 the victim of the identity theft had her wallet stolen from her care at a local gas station, according to South Lake Tahoe Police Officer Doug Sentell. The thief then took the victims credit card to at least six local businesses, and, within 30 minutes, racked up the credit card charges.
The suspect was captured on several surveillance cameras at local stores using the stolen card but his identify is not known and police have asked the public for help.
The suspect is described as a white male, 35-45 years old, medium build, with a very short hair cut. At the time of the purchases the suspect had on thin-rimmed glasses and was wearing a green flannel jacket and blue jeans.
He was seen driving a mid-to-late 90s silver four-door sedan, similar to a Honda. The car possibly had damage to the drivers side door and headlight.
South Lake Tahoe police is asking for help in this case. If you have any information as to the identity of the person in these photos, contact officer Doug Sentell at (530) 542-6100 or Secret Witness at (530) 541-6800.
Police encourage anyone who has had any loss or theft of personal information to report it to authorities immediately. It is important for victims to cancel any lost credit or debit cards and close any checking accounts as soon as the loss or theft is discovered, Sentell said.
It is also important to check your credit reports for several months after thefts to see if any unauthorized accounts have been opened in your name, Sentell said.
