Howie Nave and Dat Phan never have bad hair days.
Dat Phan returns to The Improv this week, and what’s this? He may be touring worldwide?
I hope so it’s time the rest of the globe stopped heating up some and slow down and laugh at what Dat has to offer.
His movie career is doing pretty well, by the way. “When in Rome” starring Kristen Bell, Jon Heder, Josh Duhamel, Danny DeVito and Anjelica Huston is set to open. Things clicked for Dat Phan after winning the very first reality-TV show, “Last Comic Standing.” He’s never looked back. After winning the competition, doors began to open like crazy from late night television shows, touring and, of course, motion pictures. I still enjoy his bit part in the Kim Basinger drama, “Cellular.”
Dat’s humor also touches on his cross-cultural family and is still a major source for his comedy.
“It was my mom that raised me,” Phan said. “That's why so much of my material is based on my mom. Eighty-five percent of my material is true. My ultimate goal is to have a regular part in a sitcom.”
Oh it’ll happen. Trust me.

Up goes Frazer
This Frazer Smith guy looks pretty interesting. I had heard of Frazer Smith from my Canadian friends about his radio background. I need pointers Frazer!He’s been doing the airwaves thing in Los Angeles alone for the past 30 years starting at LA’s famed K-ROQ before heading over to K-LOS, K-MET, K-LSX, K-EARTH, and has he puts it, “Basically everything starting with a “K.”
This is his first time here in Tahoe working our room for Frazer, a former ski instructor.
Frazer’s credits are pretty impressive. The former host of “Card Sharks” and NBC’s “Rockin' America,” Frazer has appeared on “The White Shadow,” “Quantum Leap,” “The George Lopez Show” and a ton of movies. You know now that I think about it I do remember seeing recently in the Robin Williams movie, “The Fisher King” which also starred Jeff Bridges. He also performed for our troops recently —in Greenland of all places!
Frazer also is working with All Comedy Radio which is a syndicated outfit that goes around the country with a show called “Greenroom.” I’m hoping he chats with me so I can blab about the advantages being from Tahoe and share those thoughts and comedy quips with his national listening program. I know. I’ll trade him some genuine fish tacos for the opportunity! Yeah, that’ll work.
