Warriors win fifth straight regional track title

Shannon Marshall won three events as Whittell High School captured its fifth consecutive Northern 2A League girls' regional track and field championship on Saturday in Yerington.

Marshall won both hurdle events and the high jump as the Warriors outscored rival Incline, 171-146. Battle Mountain was third with 120 points.

Samantha Brumbach was third in the 100, 200 and 400 meters to help Whittell's title cause. Sasha Rupp was second and third in the two distance races, and Isabel Concha-Foley finished runner-up in the discus.

Whittell grabbed second place in the eighth-team boys' meet, which was won by Rite of Passage. Kyler Felton won the long jump, 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles. He almost added a fourth win but came up a quarter inch shy of victory in the triple jump.

Sophomore John Robinson delivered the Warriors' fourth event victory, winning the 800 meters.
