High school security guard arrested

Police arrested a security guard at South Tahoe High School on Friday for allegedly giving police misleading statements regarding an aggravated assault outside a quinceanera at St. Theresa Catholic Church on May 2.

At about 9:20 a.m., police arrested Irma Salazar, 26, at the high school on suspicion of being an accessory to a felony, said El Dorado County Assistant District Attorney Hans Uthe.

During the May incident, a group of men allegedly beat up and robbed a 22-year-old Kings Beach man outside the church, Uthe said. Investigators believe the fight was gang-related, Uthe said.

The man was taken to Barton Memorial Hospital following the incident, but did not receive serious injuries, Uthe said.

Jose Robles Diaz, 18, and a 17-year-old have been arrested for their alleged involvement in the assault, as well as a second incident shortly afterward in which the men allegedly rammed a Honda Accord on the 3600 block of Forest Avenue with a Chevrolet Silverado, causing “fairly minor injuries” to the two occupants, Uthe said.

The information Salazar allegedly provided to police “caused trouble for us” in investigating both the assault outside of St. Theresa Catholic Church as well as the crash, Uthe said.

The prosecutor said he is “extremely concerned” that Salazar is “at least friendly” with a Hispanic gang in South Lake Tahoe.

The Lake Tahoe Unified School District could not offer any comments on the arrest because it's a personnel issue, said LTUSD Human Resources Director Jim Watson.

Four campus supervision and security officers work at the high school 71⁄2 hours per day, Watson said. One of those employees only works half the school year, Watson said. School Resource Officer Scott Willson also works on campus, Watson added.

Salazars's bail is set at $10,000, said Officer Mark Hounsell.
