NHP to honor Good Samaritan shot by assailant

A Good Samaritan shot and wounded after stopping along a highway to offer aid is being honored by the Nevada Highway Patrol.

NHP Chief Chris Perry is scheduled to present 51-year-old Wayne Nash the agency's Civilian Medal of Valor Award at a ceremony Friday.

Nash is a traffic designer and assistant girls basketball coach at Carson City High School.

He was shot in the leg on Mother's Day when he stopped along U.S. 395 in Washoe Valley to offer help to those in a car that veered off the road.

Instead, he found the body of 17-year-old Rene Angulo on the roadside, and was shot at by the driver of a fleeing car.

The suspect, 24-year-old Victor Rodriguez, was bound over for trial Wednesday by a Reno judge.
