SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — Citing health and personal problems, South Tahoe Public Utility District candidate Jim Martin announced Friday that he is dropping out of the Nov. 3 election and urging voters to lend their support to seat 1 candidate John Adamski.
“I just don't want to devote that much attention to the race,” said Martin, a 62-year-old former STPUD employee.
It was Martin's first run for the five-member board. He was one of three candidates who gained the endorsement of the STPUD employee union. He was absent from two recent candidate forums.
He is now encouraging voters to back Adamski, who also worked for STPUD.
“I believe he would be good because he cares about the district from when he worked there,” Martin said.
With Martin's withdrawal, there are 10 candidates vying for three open seats.
Seat 1 candidates include incumbent Ernie Claudio and challengers Adamski and Chris Cefalu. Seat 2 candidates include incumbent Jim Jones and challengers Ken Curtzwiler, Tod Williamson and John Runnels. For seat 5, Scott Swift and Peggy Cocores are challenging incumbent Eric Schafer.
