HOMEWOOD, Calif. — A Monday evening fire destroyed a popular pizzeria on Lake Tahoe's West Shore.

Fire and rescue officials confirm no one was hurt in the blaze at Pisano's Pizza, located at 5335 W. Lake Blvd., as the restaurant had recently closed for the offseason.

Engines from the North Tahoe Fire Protection District, Squaw Valley Fire and CalFire arrived to douse the fire Monday night after recieving reports of a fire at 7:47 p.m.

Investigators from the North Tahoe Fire Protection District and Placer County Sheriff's Office are investigating the fire and have yet to determine a cause.

It is typical for Sheriff's personnel to assist in determining the cause of a fire, said Dave Zaski, a public information officer with North Tahoe Fire. Officials expect to release a cause of the blaze by late today, Zaski said.

West Shore resident Jeff Cleeland lamented the loss of Pisano's.

"(This is) a huge loss for us on the (West Shore) with so few good places to eat and hang out," Cleeland said in an e-mail to the Sierra Sun. "It will be missed."
