Halloween events abound this weekend



Whether kids are king on Halloween or you prefer to celebrate like royalty, there's something for everybody in South Lake Tahoe on All Hallows' eve. The Tribune has compiled a list of events, from mild to wild, for every ghoul and goblin. All events are on Saturday, Oct. 31, unless otherwise noted.

Kids in costumes eat free at Applebee's

Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar in South Lake Tahoe will be treating all costumed kids to a free meal. Families who dine at Applebee's on Halloween will receive up to four free kids' meals with each adult entrée purchase. The free meal is valid for children in costume, age 12 and under, on any Applebee's Kids' Meal entrée, dine-in only. The restaurant is at 3987 Lake Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe. Pet Parade and Costume Contest to benefit Humane Society

The South Lake Tahoe Women's Center is hosting a Howl-oween Pet Parade and Costume Contest from 1 to 4 p.m. at 4000 Lake Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe.

The event will feature finger foods for humans and their furry companions, games, professional fall photos of pets in costume, face painting, prizes and more. Proceeds benefit the women's center and the Lake Tahoe Humane Society and go towards the safe housing, food and well-being of pets while their owners are relocating to a safer environment or residing in the women's center shelter. Kiwanis to sponsor Halloween party at Kahle Community Center

Celebrate the spirit of make believe, a sense of community and spooktacular happenings under one roof at the Kahle Community Center on Halloween from 4–7 p.m. Festivities include carnival games, treats and fun for all ages. Come dressed in a costume and bring an empty bag for treats.

Christian Fellowship to host 20th annual Harvest Festival

The Lake Tahoe Christian Fellowship is hosting its 20th annual Harvest Festival from 6–8:30 p.m. The event will feature games, face painting, crafts, candy, a pumpkin patch and a biblical costume contest.

Treat Street Halloween at Pine Cone Acre Motel

The South Tahoe Chamber of Commerce, the KRLT/KOWL radio station and the Pine Cone Acre Motel are presenting Treat Street Halloween from 5–8 p.m. as a secure, fun and safe place to bring children for free trick-or-treating. Local businesses and merchants will hand out candy and coupons.

Horizon to host Hallow-Kid Fest

The Horizon Resort Casino is hosting a Hallow-kid Fest from 1–5 p.m. in the Convention Center on Halloween. The free event will feature face painting, balloon animals, candy and more. Games will cost about 25 cents, and a “haunted maze” is $2. A costume contest will begin at 4 p.m. for children age 12 and under.

Free video games and treats at Harveys Arcade party

Harveys Resort Casino is hosting a Halloween party from noon to 11 p.m. in the arcade. All video games are free, along with free popcorn and candy. At 8 p.m., there will be DDR/Guitar Hero contests. Call (800) HARVEYS for information.

American Legion Post to hold party and dance

The American Legion Post 795 will host a Halloween party and dance tonight at its meeting hall at 2748 Lake Tahoe Blvd. The Cash Only band will play, there will be door prizes and good eats, and admission is free. The fun starts at 5 p.m.

Annual Terror in Paradise haunted house benefits charity

TWCC presents Terror in Paradise haunted house, 6–10 p.m., Bijou Center, 3446 Lake Tahoe Blvd. Adult tickets are $7, children 6-12 are $4. Children under age 5 are free, although parental guidance is strongly suggested due to the nature of the visuals and performances. Raffle tickets will be sold at the door for prizes donated by local merchants. All proceeds benefit Christmas Cheer, which distributes donations of free food, household items and clothes to people in need For information, call (530) 542-3934.

Freakers Ball tradition continues on Halloween at MontBleu Resort

MontBleu Resort Casino and Spa will present the 31th annual Freakers Ball, Lake Tahoe's longest running Halloween Party. Doors open at 8 p.m. and the party goes as long as the partygoers can. The Freakers Ball is being held in Blu Nightclub, Opal Ultra Lounge and the Convention Center with the band "Pop Fiction." Drink specials all night and morning long, costume contest with more than $10,000 in cash and prizes, go-go dancers and body painting. Tickets are available by calling MontBleu at (800) 648-3353 or at ticketmaster.com.
