For the second time in two weeks, South Tahoe High's boys' basketball team nearly overcame a double-digit fourth-quarter deficit. But just like they did at Fallon on Jan. 12, the Vikings came up a bit short at Wooster on Tuesday night.

The Colts withstood potential game-tying three-point attempts by Ricky Braun and Kory DiGrande in the final seconds and held on for a 49-46 Sierra Division victory.

South Tahoe (2-7 league) trailed Wooster 40-30 with 2 minutes, 12 seconds to go in the third quarter, but battled back to within 47-44 on a Peter Pielaet-Strayer drive to the basket with 2:37 to go. Pielaet-Strayer banked in shot a minute later to bring the Vikings within a basket, but Wooster used a rebound bucket for the game's final points.

South Tahoe plays host to top-ranked Manogue on Friday night.

STHS frosh beat Wooster

The South Tahoe boys' freshman basketball team ended a three-game tailspin, beating Wooster 61-46 Tuesday in South Lake Tahoe.

Brandon Cramer scored a team-high 16 points, and Bobby Perez poured in 10.

"We pulled away with great defense and smart, half-court offense down the stretch," said STHS coach Joby Cefalu. "We have worked really hard lately on team offense. The kids did a great job of working the ball around and finding good shots.

"Hayden Bronken, Cory Plummer and Kris DiGrande played great defense."

South Tahoe (11-8) also received nine points by John Cefalu and seven each from Cody Higgins and Kyante Wilson.

The South Tahoe junior varsity team lost to Wooster, 54-39.
